The staff were all welcoming and friendly, and the food was very nice, especially breakfast, though I also noticed at times that it wasn't very hot. The location is great and there's a big car park, although the surface isn't great for walking or driving. We enjoyed our stay and Charlestown, but St Austell Brewery should make clear on the website that some guests stay in a separate building opposite the pub. The room photos should be more realistic. We were initially disappointed to learn at check-in that we weren't staying at the Rashleigh itself, since neither point had been made clear. The separate accommodation was lovely, though a bit of a trek to the pub for breakfast in pouring rain would have been unpleasant. Our room was okay but tired, with a grubby carpet and blind, and a shabby old en suite that needs refreshing. It didn't have the modern facilities shown online. It was well equipped with tea and coffee, a fan, hairdryer, and cotton buds and cotton wool in the bathroom. The bed and bedding were super comfortable. The separate building may actually have been better, since the pub beer garden was still noisy late into the night.

The pub is a lovely place to dine, and the management took our drinks off the bill after a problem with the meal, which was appreciated. We still left a tip for the waiting staff. Service for our party of four was great, but two fish meals weren't hot enough and had to be sent back, so we ended up eating in two shifts. Not ideal. The veg and other accompaniments cost a significant extra, which felt like a cynical way to charge more, especially with such a tiny serving of dauphnoir potato. And the car park has the worst surface ever.

We mentioned in passing that it was a birthday lunch, even though we hadn't said so when booking. They took the trouble to decorate the dessert plate with birthday wishes and give the birthday girl, who was 80, a complimentary dessert. It made the already good service and food feel extra special, and we really appreciated it.

The staff were good, but the meal was a real letdown. The roast dinners were okay, though some people complained that the meat was tough. I had battered fish and chips with mushy peas. There weren't many chips, the fish was mostly batter with only small pieces inside, and the peas looked dried out and powdery, so I couldn't eat them. For the price, I expected a decent meal. You can get better fish and chips at the local chippy.

We stopped in for a quick Friday evening dinner. Great food and brilliant service. Thanks especially to Seb, who was attentive and made my daughter laugh. It's nice to have such a good local pub.
