The Mid Wales Inn has a lovely old-fashioned feel, with locals at the bar for a pint and people playing pool. We had a drink and a game before dinner, and the host made the three of us feel very welcome. The beef & ale pie was full of flavour, and the gammon was just as good. Great food in a place with real character.

The beds were the comfiest I've ever slept in, and the room was clean and lovely and warm. The Blue Room's shower and toilet were across the corridor, seemingly for that room alone, and spotlessly clean. Free bathrobes too. Our charming host cooked breakfast fresh, possibly the biggest and best I've had at a B&B. Dinner was extremely well cooked, and the traditional ale came in a proper handled glass. With evening drinks included, the whole bill was just under £100. An absolute bargain!

A comfortable bed in the Green Room, and secure parking that works well for bikers. It's a typical pub with rooms upstairs, perfectly adequate, with decent food and good ales. Breakfast starts a little late, from 9am, if you're heading out for the day.

After giving it some thought, I'm leaving two stars. I hope the owners take the feedback on board and make some changes. I found them chatty and friendly, and the male owner seemed organised and made a visible effort with the cleaning. The inn is pretty, with free parking and WiFi, a quiet location, local shops, restaurants, pubs and a food shop nearby, plus amazing views outside. Our room had an ensuite, and I slept really well in the comfortable bed with bedding of just the right thickness. Tracey and her partner made an amazing full English breakfast. The location is easy to reach, but the inn itself isn't clearly visible and could be missed. On arrival, the entrance felt disorganised, as if nobody was expecting us, and the inside looked dirty and cluttered with things like an empty cake stand and unused furniture. We were told by Sam that no food was served on Mondays, which was disappointing after our four-hour drive and sightseeing stops. The junk in the red telephone box also meant it wasn't a good photo spot for the inn's tourism advertising. We laughed at the colour-coded room names, but famous local places would have made a more interesting theme for a trip to Wales. Bright colours won't suit everyone after a hike, bike ride or other adventures; earthy colours and landmark pictures would feel more relaxing. There was no milk for tea, and hair on a biscuit packet put me off. I also wasn't told the room was used by dogs, which matters with my asthma. There was dog hair on the blanket and floor, and it definitely hadn't been hoovered before our later arrival. The TV was too small to watch from bed, so we used our tablet for Netflix. The bathroom was okay, but the transparent toilet brush showed brown marks from previous toilet cleaning. There was no hand wash, so we used shower gel, and without a bath mat we used a small towel instead. Because of the cleaning, we chose to eat at a pub, which I've reviewed too.

After a day out in the Cambrian Mountains, we had a good value meal in the back garden in Aug 2019. We tried the lamb burger, chilli and vegetarian curry, and enjoyed the food and beer. A friendly pub, worth a visit.
