The afternoon tea was a lovely change after a few visits here. Everything tasted fresh, and there was a good mix of cakes and little treats. The brownies were my favourite, though those mini burgers were seriously good too. Even the ham was nice, and it all came on fancy china. I'd definitely recommend trying it.

At last, there's a proper Guinness in St Helens. The Royal Alfred's pint was jet black with a settled, creamy head, exactly how it should look. The young woman behind the bar took care over the pour, letting it settle instead of rushing it. You can tell someone there understands how to pour Guinness. St Helens drinkers used to have to go elsewhere for a pint like this. Every one should come out looking that good.

We had a wonderful time and will be back soon. The pub was warm, comfortable and really welcoming, and it was lovely to see one of the former Green Room staff there. It was also a great place for my disabled brother. Thanks to Warren and the team, I couldn't recommend it more. 😎👌🏼

Under its new management and ownership, the place has been refurbished and feels like the new spot to go in town. The Sunday roast is probably the best around: delicious, generous portions and reasonably priced.

We love it here! The atmosphere, food and prices are all lovely, and the owner and staff are wonderful too. Beautiful place, definitely recommend it. 💕❤️
