Cohort St Ives

The hostel has excellent amenities, but other guests can make the stay difficult. I've stayed here a few times, and that's the only issue I've had. If you're a woman travelling alone and don't want to be woken by loud, drunk men, I'd recommend booking a female-only dorm instead of a mixed one. In one stay, guys slammed doors, talked loudly until 2 am, then snored for the rest of the night. One kept going in and out, slamming the door, then locked himself out and banged on it until someone got up to let him in at 3 am. Rooms 1 and 2 are mixed and face the main road, so there's traffic and pedestrian noise too, which is horrific at weekends. During that stay, there was a conflict with someone in my original room who needed loud noise to sleep during quiet hours, while I didn't. Adriana kindly helped me move to an unoccupied bed in another room. I didn't have a pleasant stay because of the other occupants, but I'd stay again and choose a female-only dorm next time. Full-length mirrors and small shelves beside every bed would be useful as standard. Some rooms had them and others didn't. Notices about quiet hours in the rooms could help too. This hostel seems to have more unruly, inconsiderate guests than other hostels I've stayed in. Most people are out during the day and come back for a good night's sleep, so not being able to sleep because of loud, disrespectful guests becomes a real problem.

This hostel came to my rescue at the last minute. I had a great experience: the rooms were clean and the staff friendly. The only real downside was the loud seagulls keeping me awake at night, so bring earplugs!

Such a lovely stay. The staff were incredibly helpful, kind and friendly, especially Adrianna. The kitchen is great, and the location is superb. I'll visit again!

I've stayed in plenty of hostels across different countries over the past year, and this was definitely one of the nicest. The rooms are really good and the beds sturdy. I liked the scaffold-style bars on the wooden frames for hanging things, and there are open social spaces and a kitchen guests can use. The staff are friendly and the location is perfect, so I'd definitely come back. I was here with two friends on a cycling trip through Cornwall. We locked our bikes in the courtyard, which felt very safe. The hostel seems welcoming to solo travellers as well as groups.
