Beechwood House

My room looked out to sea, and a free daily refill of breakfast items was left in the bedroom fridge. The B&B is a welcome place to retreat to in the evening, away from the noise and crowds of busy St Ives centre. It's a short walk to Carbis Bay, the best beach in St Ives, and to the train station, where the ride into the centre takes three minutes.

The hotel owners were really friendly, and the room was great. The fridge was well stocked and there were facilities for making breakfast, eggs included. Carbis Bay beach is just a stone's throw away. It's an untouched gem, much nicer than the busier beaches further along.

Beechwood turned out to be a goldmine of a place to stay, especially if you're getting around Cornwall by public transport. The hosts were so accommodating. They even let us check in a little early because public transport got us there ahead of the official time. We didn't get to see them again after check-in because our travel plans meant early starts, but the woman was lovely and suggested places to visit. The room was gorgeous and had everything we needed, including a mini fridge and egg cooker. Every day, it was restocked with complimentary small orange juices, water, yogurt and fruit pots, plus a couple of brunch bars. Those were very welcome on our early mornings. Fresh milk for cereal was left on the tables too. There was also a good-sized mirror, TV and hairdryer. That bed was unreal, easily the most comfortable and cosy I've ever slept in. I'd have taken it home if I could! The two minor hiccups were a door that squeaked loudly, which I worried might wake other rooms if we needed the toilet at night, and a shower that was difficult to regulate, with little middle ground between hot and cold. The door didn't turn out to be an issue, and the shower just took a bit of getting used to. We didn't raise either with beechwood because neither felt like a big problem, though I'm sure they'd have done their best to help if we had. Getting around was easy. Carbis Bay train station is a 15-minute walk away, and from there we travelled to st ives, Truro, Charlestown, Redruth, the lizard and kynance, holywell and botallack mine with no trouble. Costcutter next door was open until 11pm as I write this. There's an amazing vegan restaurant and a chippy within a 10-minute walk, and a Tesco superstore 15 minutes away. The beautiful carbis bay beach is just a minute further from the station, which makes evening walks convenient and lovely. I'd recommend beechwood to anyone, particularly if you rely on public transport. Thankyou beechwood for making us comfortable and looking after us while we explored your beautiful county!

Jan&pete were lovely hosts, and the room had everything we needed. Breakfast was delicious, with different options and plenty of tea and coffee. Everything is just a short walk from the hotel. Perfect.
