Lifeboat Inn

The pudding was the best part of our Christmas Day meal, and I really enjoyed the starter too. The main was tasty, but the fish portion was tiny, so I didn't leave feeling full. At £95 each, I expected more, perhaps some extra sides or the roast instead. The meal cost £190 for two before drinks, and it fell short of feeling like a special occasion or good value. The bread board was disappointing as well, just a couple of stale, dry slices like cheap supermarket bread. Fresh bread with butter would be an easy improvement. Service was friendly, though a little inattentive. We ordered drinks at the bar but weren't offered anything at the table, not even water, and empty water and wine glasses stayed there throughout. The TVs all showing BBC News on Christmas Day made the atmosphere less enjoyable. Festive music or a fireplace would have been nicer. We were grateful we could bring our dog. A water bowl or some small dog friendly touch would have been lovely, though maybe that's too much to ask. We do appreciate the staff working on Christmas Day. This place could be really good with more care for the details.

The food was outstanding at every meal for all seven of us, and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating. We've been coming to The Lifeboat for decades, and it's been great to see it evolve and keep improving, especially the food. Ella & Sam were working the week we visited, and we saw them several times. They were so friendly and helpful with all of us, including our dogs, for whom they brought water bowls and treats. The kids got colouring sets at the table too. We can't fault the place and look forward to coming back.

The food was the letdown here, with tiny portions for the prices. The pub staff were welcoming and chatty, and there was a good selection of draught beers and ciders.

We had another great visit to the Lifeboat. The drinks selection is brilliant, with non-alcoholic choices too, and they looked after our dog with lots of treats and water bowls. Most evenings Sam greeted us. She was lovely, really helpful and chatty, and we built a good rapport. The live music was great, and we'd definitely recommend the small plates. We'll be back next time we're down. Thanks all!
