La Villette Hotel

A friendly, comfortable hotel with nothing bad to say about it. It’s fairly close to the airport, on a bus route, and there’s a good walk down to a bay.

The bus, No.81, stops outside, and there’s a timetable at reception. It goes to the terminus, where you can connect with other routes and get around the island easily. Check the Sunday timetable for the last bus back, or taxis are a good price. The hotel was clean and friendly, with good facilities, and I’d return, though it is a little dated and a blind in the corridor needed fixing. The two entrance signs could use an update too, but don’t judge a book by its cover. I stayed six nights at La Villette Hotel on my own. I’d been a little nervous about booking a 3-star place, but got a good deal with Condor Ferries and was pleasantly surprised. Reception staff were friendly and helpful whenever I needed them, and there’s a lift for luggage. My room was compact but had enough space for one person, crisp clean sheets and towels, a comfortable bed, and a good shower in a spotless shower room. There was an iron and ironing board in the room, and laundry service if needed. The pool, jacuzzi, steam room and gym open at 6am. Towels and bathrobes are available in the pool lounge. The facilities were good, and although locals have memberships, it wasn’t crowded when I used them. The food was tasty with generous portions, and the staff were attentive and friendly. I didn’t try the full English breakfast, though it looked nice. Evening meals also came in generous portions with good service.

The out-of-town setting made for some beautiful walks right on the doorstep, and it was very quiet at night. We had a thoroughly relaxing five-night stay and would come back. The rooms and en suite were very clean, with a decent shower. Food was very good, and the breakfast coffee was excellent. The pools, jacuzzi and steam room were fabulous.

Really good facilities, with a gym, sauna, steam room and swimming pool. Amazing service.
