The bed was comfortable, and the room had a handy little fridge and a nice warm shower. The owners were pleasant and accommodating, though there was a strange whirring noise all night. You get what you pay for here: if cheap and cheerful is enough and you don’t mind some spiders or a half-hearted clean, it’s fine for a night. Handy as a stop on the way somewhere else.

After a long day on my motorbike coming back from a tour in the north, I added a night at Common Farm. The owner was friendly and welcoming, and the place was comfortable, if a bit dated. That seemed fair for the price. Breakfast cost extra and was collected the night before. It was adequate, with two pints of milk for two bowls of cereal and a few cups of tea. It was reasonably priced and welcome before another day on the road. I’d stay again.

I had a lovely stay in the same room as the last reviewer, and I’m not sure what to say about their account unless they were under the bed. I’m back this week and will book again for next week. For the price, it’s excellent value. The owners are a lovely couple and always happy to help. My room is cleaned and made up daily, and it’s peaceful, relaxing and has everything I need for a week away for work. It’s a farm, so the place isn’t thoroughly modern or immaculate, but it is functional, clean, neat and full of character. I haven’t gone looking for spiders, but I haven’t seen any either. Lovely place and lovely people.

I come here regularly for work, and the owners are always friendly and helpful. The rooms are basic but have what I need, usually at least a kettle and microwave. They’re warm in winter and cool in summer, and I always sleep well.

The main drawback for me was the bed and pillows. I slept badly both nights and found the bedding uncomfortable, possibly because it was cheap. Otherwise, Common Farm was a decent place to stay. It was immaculately clean, fairly well equipped, and the en suite had a powerful shower and a few complimentary toiletries. There’s a fridge, microwave and kettle in the room, plus a folder with local taxi and takeaway information. The owners and their black lab were incredibly hospitable and friendly. The converted barns could use a handyman and decorator to freshen them up a little. It’s on the A51, with good access to Lichfield, Stoke on Trent, Uttoxter, Cheadle and Stone, but watch carefully for the entrance since it’s easy to miss on the fast road. From Lichfield, turn right at the speed camera; from the other direction, turn left. I’d have given it more than three stars if I’d slept better.
