The food was delicious, and the building has been updated thoughtfully so it's comfortable while keeping its character and charm. My lovely Cavalier King Charles, Danny, and I spent two separate nights at The Lion Hotel and had a lovely time. The staff were warm, welcoming and very dog friendly. Our top floor room was comfortable and had a great ensuite. Recommended!

Lovely twin room and a fabulous village, with a superb location and food. The breakfast eggs were the best I've had in years. A special shout-out to Meg, who was a wonderful staff member. My only downside was that breakfast came with instant coffee only. I thought that was unusual and a bit old fashioned. You can buy a flat white and other coffees, thankfully, but I think one should be offered with breakfast.

Breakfast was good, apart from the raw toast. For the price, it was decent value, and staying here makes it easy to have a meal and head straight up to your room. The rooms are okay, but the layouts are oddly planned. I've stayed a few times and found the rooms badly arranged each time, for no good reason. There's plenty of space, yet no side tables, and the plug sockets are always covered. The TVs feel old, and the rooms just aren't very relaxing. A few simple changes could make this brilliant.

We stopped here for one night on the drive from Devon to Scotland. The room was in good order and clean, as was the shower, and the water was hot. Our dog was welcome and enjoyed the stay too. Breakfast was superb, with cereals and pastries as well as a full breakfast made with quality ingredients. Very enjoyable.

The evening meals were good, and there was a two course deal Tuesday to Thursday. The rooms are pleasant, fairly spacious and clean, in a lovely village. The bathroom was a bit dark, though, which would make putting on makeup difficult. If the breakfast problems were sorted, I'd give it five stars. Breakfast was inconsistent. On the first morning I ordered eggs benedict and got just one piece of bacon for the two muffin halves. When I asked for two pieces next time, four arrived. Breakfast is supposed to start at 7am, but one morning there were no hot drinks at 7:15. On other days croissants didn't arrive until 7:45 and 8:00. Drinks were disappointing, with instant coffee sachets and a hot water urn, and no teapots. The cooked breakfast toast was wafer thin, dry and inedible, twisted into a strange star shape before toasting.
