Holiday Inn Express Stevenage by IHG

Handy for a stopover if you’re travelling by train. The rooms were comfortable and quiet, and the staff were great. Breakfast was the usual help yourself setup. There’s not much open around the hotel, but the old town is only a short walk away and has what you need.

The staff were really friendly, but there were a few issues. The room lighting was very poor and there weren’t any electrical sockets by the bed. Some money went missing from my room, and that wasn’t taken seriously. It was only about £6, but it still stings.

Good spot for getting to Slam Dunk and catching trains to London, and the service was nice. Breakfast wasn’t great. I didn’t want it again the second morning.

At around 1am, when my girlfriend and I checked in on Saturday 9th May, one employee was polite and helpful. Another worker, a bald white European man serving other customers, made several jokes about doing kung fu and pretended to do the moves right in front of me. I’m British Chinese, and found it disgusting and racist. As an IHG club member, this isn’t what I signed up for. I’ll avoid Holiday Inn hotels now because I don’t want another experience like this. Please avoid this racist hotel.
