At £160 for two nights, this was far too expensive for such a run-down place, and I won't be coming back. The room felt old and worn, with a dirty carpet and bins left full by the previous guest. The bed linen looked clean, though I didn't dare inspect the mattresses. The shower, sink and toilet seemed clean at first, but once the doors were shut there was disgusting mould behind them. The shower-side floor was stained and dirty. At least there was plenty of hot water, and the TV worked. The microwave was clean but the fridge wasn't. There were two mugs, a spoon, a kettle, tea and coffee, but no cutlery for eating anything heated in the microwave. There weren't any bedside lights either. There was an unpleasant smell throughout the hotel. The public areas looked worn and badly needed paint, and the old carpet was dirty in places even while a man was vacuuming. The car park was filthy, with a discarded syringe, tissues and empty cans. The receptionist was sitting behind the desk the whole time and was barely visible, though she was pleasant enough. Nobody helped with our suitcase on the stairs, despite my husband using a walking stick, and the lift was out of order. A pretty unpleasant stay.

We won't be staying here again. The place is on a busy road with cars constantly passing, and the poorly maintained car park didn't help. There were buggies parked at the bottom of the stairs, while the front desk was often unmanned. Our first room was very warm and clearly hadn't been cleaned. The drawers were dirty, and the sheets were stained. When I raised it, I was told the marks were “permanent stains.” The rooms are dated, the carpets hadn't been cleared very well, and the hallway lights kept flashing. The shower was busy and sprayed out from the sides instead of coming properly from the shower head. There's no way to request room service from the rooms. When we did hear the cleaners, they were shouting to each other down the hall and were very noisy. Do not book this place.

I spotted what looked like a dead bug on the sheet under the mattress and left straight away. The sheets had tiny marks that looked like blood, and the duvets inside them were yellow. It was the least clean room I've ever been in, with one harsh white light. The reception and communal areas were filthy too. The carpets looked as if they'd never been vacuumed, and grime, marks and damage covered the walls. Some stair treads were missing, and every door had some kind of damage. The whole building was filthy. It looked like emergency accommodation, and the price was an absolute rip-off. The single worst hotel I've ever stayed in. I wouldn't recommend anyone even consider this dump.

Our room had a sunlounge, and we really enjoyed spending time there. The hotel is handy for both Manchester and Stockport, and it's a lovely building. The facilities were basic, which was what we'd expect for the price, but the rooms and surroundings were looking a bit tired.

The mattress was yellow and stinking, so we left almost as soon as we arrived and demanded a refund. They said the refund had to go through booking.com, even though we'd paid at the hotel. Eventually I called, and they said they'd refund us if we didn't leave a bad review. I recorded that call. Here's the bad review, then. I won't be blackmailed. Do not stay here. This was the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. Disgusting. I think it's mainly used as emergency accommodation, so keep that in mind if you book.
