The Royal Hotel

There are no lifts, so guests on the second or third floor will need to manage the stairs. I also found the bathroom small and a little dated, with separate hot and cold taps. Still, the room was clean and well kept, had a lovely view and a very comfortable bed. The welcome was friendly and informative, and having two on-site restaurants serving very good food was a real convenience. A pleasant place to stay in Stornoway.

My friend and I spent two nights in a twin room while exploring Lewis and Harris. The beds were the softest and most comfortable we'd had on our vacation, and the staff were friendly and helpful around the clock. We enjoyed dinner at the hotel restaurant and breakfast, then tried the other restaurant attached to it the next day. The food there was great too. I especially recommend the Sticky Toffee Popcorn Sundae, amazing! There is no lift, so people with mobility issues will have to climb stairs. Aside from that, it was perfect, and the staff made us feel so welcome. The location is great and close to the ferry port.

The room and ensuite were clean, and the location is brilliant, which is why we keep booking here. But on my second business trip, I was hoping for a room facing the port and got a tiny one looking over the parking area and AC units instead. There was barely room to unpack. With the curtain or window open, anyone walking past or parking could see straight in, so there was no privacy.

Our room was spacious and comfortable, though a bit dated. The hotel restaurant was one of the best I tried in town, with lots of options, fresh ingredients and well-prepared dishes. The people here were genuinely kind and quick to help, whether I needed a corkscrew brought to the room or help securing a restaurant reservation. They did it with a smile or hearty laugh that made me feel cared for. The location is central, opposite the Lewis Castle, with views of the water and castle.
