There’s some fascinating history displayed on the walls, and it fits nicely with the vintage decor. Parking right there is limited, though there’s another car park a short walk away. I’ve been back a few times: on 15.11.21 I stopped in after work and enjoyed a Helvetica for £3.80. On an earlier visit, my partner ordered a gin and tonic and was served a large. She accepted it because she’s polite, but paying £11.60 along with a pint of real ale left us a bit bitter. The atmosphere is good, though some drinks can be pricey. I’d go again, just avoid the double measures. (Summer 2018)

That burger and beer deal was a real bargain, and my burger was amazing. The staff were really friendly, the food was great, and it’s a nice pub. I’d visited before, but I’ll be back again! The Castle is also where the Printingpress brewery is, the original birthplace of Sadler's. Sadler's later moved to bigger premises, then a larger concern bought it, shut the local brewery and shifted production to Cumbria. Blackcountry brew has since returned, and I’d say it’s better than ever.

The gin blending and tasting session was incredible, and we felt really well looked after. The food was wonderful too. A great day out, and we’d happily come back. Highly recommended!

I went on the brewery tour for a friend’s stag do. I’m not really an ale fan and thought it was okay, though about £5 overpriced. The burger and chips were nice 🍔
