The lounge was a real highlight, with its fireplace and plenty of leather sofas. It was a lovely place to sit with a book one evening. The hotel's location is handy too, just a few minutes from St. Edwards Church (the doors of Durin!) and nearby restaurants and cafes. My room and its decor felt a little dated, though charming and very tidy. Road noise came through the bathroom vent, but I couldn't hear it in the room itself. Breakfast was included, though I ate there only once. I chose the vegetarian option because the traditional English breakfast seemed too heavy. The vegetarian sausage tasted odd to me; the beans, mushrooms and toast were all average.

The lamb roast was the worst I've ever had, even compared with school dinners and meals at my grandad's nursing home. The lamb was grey, the mint sauce was just mint and water, and the gravy tasted like cheap imitation bisto. The boiled Brussel sprouts didn't help. Truly awful food, and this place feels stuck in a 70's time warp. There are plenty of other choices in town, so avoid eating here.

We were walking by at 2.30pm and asked the woman if we could have tea. She greeted us with, “We’re closed.” I could have asked whether we might look at the lounge for a possible visit another time, but we just went elsewhere. So I still have no idea whether staying there would be worthwhile.

From the moment we arrived, the whole team made us feel at home. Ian, Robbie, and Debbie were especially wonderful, and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout our July 4th-7th stay at Stow Lodge Hotel. The Sunday roast was a highlight, absolutely delicious, and all the food was divine. You can feel the care they put into looking after every guest. The warmth and service made our time there unforgettable. We're already planning to return and can't recommend Stow Lodge Hotel enough. A big thank you and much love from Angela and Renie to the entire team. We'll be back soon!

I was reviewing the restaurant, but after enjoying it I wished I'd stayed at the hotel too. The restaurant, bar and lounge were all great, with a quiet, dignified atmosphere and an easy, authentic grace. My meal was wonderful, as were the conversations with the servers. Best of all, we had several friendly chats with other guests in the lounge.
