The room and bathroom were clean and roomy, and everything worked. Shaun at reception and the woman taking breakfast orders deserve a special mention. They were brilliant and happy to share local knowledge. I’d booked three nights a while back at a discounted rate, and I’ll admit the reviews had made me a little concerned. The hotel is somewhat tired, but a major redevelopment is imminent. We’d certainly come back.

Room 14 was spacious and had the usual things, including tea, coffee, a kettle, hair dryer, and TV. The bathroom was large and clean, and the bed was comfortable. We were the only car in the huge car park when we arrived, and the reviews had left me a bit worried, but our stay turned out fine. The receptionist was friendly and helpful, including with taxi suggestions since town is a fair way off. Some parts of the hotel look dated and a little tired, but at £70 I thought it was good value.

The room was quite 90s, but it had a good toilet, a nice shower cubicle, and good quality shower gel and towels. My boyfriend and I stayed for three nights while visiting Suffolk in August 2020. A friendly woman welcomed us at 9pm and showed us to a comfortable room in the corner of the hotel block. There was parking beside the hotel and plenty of leaflets for local attractions. When we asked, we were given more decaff coffee, canderel, and skimmed milk pots. The hotel also has a bar and restaurant downstairs serving local cheeses and ham. My only real gripe was that the carpets in the room need a deep clean. The nightly rates were good, I enjoyed the stay, and I’d return.

The room was in such a shocking state. Just feet from the window was a chipboard hoarding, and the window latches were broken. The curtains were ragged and about as thin as bedsheets, and the worn mattress made us roll together, so we had a truly uncomfortable night. The shower barely got warm and was inadequate. Inside and out, the place looked shabby, grubby, and neglected. On arrival there was nobody at reception, just a notice sending us to the bar, which was awkward with a suitcase. The girl behind the bar was pleasant, but I’m shocked Best Western puts people in rooms like this at any price.

The meal portions were huge and the food was superb. We hadn’t booked dinner because we didn’t know when we’d arrive, but the staff found us a table even though they were full. Breakfast was relaxed, with the usual Continental and cooked options, and the cooked breakfast was delicious. We stayed in a family room at the Cedars hotel on 3rd Feb and had a great time. The staff were friendly and welcoming despite a very busy evening. The manager told us at check-in about a 21st birthday party and disco until midnight, but our room was far enough away that we weren’t disturbed. The 16th Century farmhouse has dated decor, though its quirky character and historic charm come through. Our 8 year old loved exploring the corridors and stairs to our tucked away room. It was clean, warm, comfortable, and well equipped for our overnight stay.
