The WiFi was rubbish, and there aren't many shops nearby, so you'd need to travel to another town for a supermarket or similar. It's above a pub, and it was noisy until late. The place was clean and had everything we needed for a short stay. The massive bed was lovely, but the mattresses separated during the night, which was disappointing.

The drinks were fine, and it's a decent place for a pint, watching football, playing pool and listening to the jukebox. The food was beyond terrible. I've been coming here for eight years, and the pub grub used to be acceptable for the price. No food was served last year, but the menu came back this year, perhaps something to do with the Galloway opening. I knew what to expect from the McDownshire burger I'd had before, but this one was awful and cost £10. All eight of us thought our meals were poor. We came back for drinks and saw two solo diners eating at the bar; both complained about their food and were refused refunds. The bartender acknowledged the quality problem but said the owner wouldn't approve a refund. I wonder if they're serving food to help sell the place, which is on the market for £500k. They'd be better off serving nothing. I'd avoid taking a chance on the food.

The breakfast was excellent and very good value for money. It's a small hotel with very pleasant staff, and the room was small but had a king bed. The bathroom door frame was low, and at 6'4" I caught my head on it once. The pub downstairs served very good beer. There were a couple of dogs in the adjoining room, so it's pet friendly.

The staff were extremely nice, and the hotel is an easy walk from anywhere in the village. It's an old place, so the rooms and facilities are ageing. I had to leave before breakfast, but they left a package of tasty sandwiches and drinks outside my door. I'll definitely return.

I stayed here with my poorly husband. We actually got married a month later, on 5th Feb. The staff were kind, and when we asked to move to a better room, room 1 was nice. I'll always remember the stay fondly because my husband passed away on Christmas Eve 2017. Thank you for being so nice to us both.
