Grosvenor Hotel

The location was great, beside the canal and just two minutes from restaurants, the river and town centre. I was there with my two young children, and the staff were always kind and helpful. It was very hot during our visit, so they brought us a fan for the room. Parking was the only problem, and only on one of our five nights: we got back to a full car park, but the Manager went out of their way to find a solution. Nothing was too much trouble. We had a lovely room, comfortable beds and delicious breakfasts in this friendly hotel. Thanks for a great few days. We can’t wait to come back soon. Excellent hotel, highly recommended!

The area was nice, quiet and close to everything, and the room had all we needed. Our first receptionist was lovely, checked us in earlier than expected and helped with parking. But we had a heating problem: the room was boiling, and the receptionist we told didn’t check or help. A room change was offered, but she didn’t seem happy about it, so late at night we didn’t want the extra stress of moving. The next day, the other receptionist was apologetic and tried to sort things out. The room didn’t look like the pictures, especially for the king size room we’d booked. Drinks were very expensive too, and breakfast didn’t have much choice.

The bed was really comfortable, and the room had a good sized TV. I also liked having a decent sized bathroom with both a bath and shower. The only small issue was a bar charge we hadn’t incurred, but they sorted it out and reimbursed us. There’s a large wall mirror, though a smaller one on the dressing table or in a drawer would’ve helped when doing makeup. Breakfast wasn’t being served, so we went to Vinters nearby and had a lovely breakfast.

The location was the only good part of our stay. The rooms weren’t as advertised; after we asked, they moved us to a slightly bigger one, which we accepted. The place needs attention: dusty stairs, carpets that need a good clean and vacuum, dated bathrooms, cracked tiles, shower curtains that should be changed and lots of limescale around the taps. Our room wasn’t cleaned after the first night, and the air conditioning didn’t work. The car park was a nightmare, with the hotel charging customers £9 a night but not having enough spaces. Breakfast choices were limited. Very disappointing, and I’ve stayed in 2* B&Bs that offered much more and were far cleaner. After reading recent reviews, I think the General Manager seriously needs to listen to customer feedback and act on it. Car
