Mercure Stratford Upon Avon Shakespeare Hotel

We stayed in the old part of the hotel, in a lovely room with beams. It had air conditioning, which was welcome in the warm weather, plus a fridge, iron, and ironing board. The staff were pleasant and accommodating. Breakfast was nice, but the eggs dried out under the heat lamps. I’d have preferred them cooked to order. We also thought £15 was far too much for overnight parking. Even so, it was a lovely stay.

The staff were friendly and very helpful, housekeeping came every day, and the bed was comfortable. It’s a lovely hotel, well located for everything, and I’d definitely come back. I really liked the atmosphere and the age of the place, with its many little nooks and crannies. In the evening, you can get a drink at the bar, then settle into one of the seating areas. I had a Jameson and my daughter had a pot of tea. There are table games too, like cards and dominoes. Delightful.

The buffet breakfast was superb, with an amazing range of hot and cold food, and the staff were friendly. The location is central, with the hotel car park just around the corner. My room was comfortable, the bedding immaculate, and the bathroom gleaming with fixed toiletries. It also had an iron and ironing board, a hairdryer, a fridge, and tea and coffee making facilities. The carpet beneath the desk was a bit threadbare, but as they say, look at the flowers and not the broken fence!

The room was really nice, with comfortable beds and good sleep. The floors creak a bit, but that’s to be expected in such an old building. Downstairs there were good rooms to sit and relax with a drink. The staff were nice, and breakfast had a good choice. The toilets in our bathroom and downstairs both needed several flushes. There wasn’t enough tea, sugar, coffee, or milk, and when we arrived we found we’d paid a lot more than the price shown.
