The bed was comfortable, and the linen and towels were immaculate, as they should be. There were some friendly, helpful staff, and the pub had a nice old local feel. But the room was run down, cramped and a little musty. Old cobwebs were everywhere, and it needs a proper clean and refurb. The lamp electrics were faulty, and an extension lead was behind the bed and on top of the radiator, so I moved it to stop it smouldering from the heat. The toilet flush was poor. I didn't use the shower because the very tiny, squashed bathroom put me off. The kettle was nasty and the water tasted horrid, so we didn't use it. There were no biscuits, tissues or bottled water. Street and bar noise was horrible. Breakfast was basic, with no real vegetable option, no cereal and only thin white bread. Besides a basic full English, they offered beans, three types of egg on toast and mushrooms on toast. You get one cup of tea or coffee and a glass of orange juice, with no other drink option. Breakfast costs extra when you book the room, so more choices would be nice. We paid £100 quid for one night. It's very close to the attractions, town and theatres, but there are better, cheaper options. We stayed at a bigger Inn before and everything was amazing for less. I was going to let it slide and put it down to experience, but others should know.

The staff were fine and very welcoming when we stopped for lunch, but the two steak sandwiches weren't what we expected. It's usually our lunchtime go-to, but the steak in these was wafer-thin, almost like ham, and we weren't sure what it was. Some of the sauce sachets were over a year out of date. There was also a lot of swearing and unsavoury comments from locals, which both tables either side of us picked up on. It's a shame, but we probably wouldn't return.

We picked this hotel for its location near the RSC Theatre, since our usual hotel was closed for renovations. The rooms are small, which wasn't a problem, but they badly need maintenance and repairs. The shower was so mouldy and rusty that I couldn't bring myself to use it. We booked with breakfast included, yet on Sunday morning the whole place was closed and nobody was there. We had to leave our keys in a mailbox and find breakfast somewhere else. We're not coming back.

The room was cosy and great value for money, and the location worked well for exploring Stratford upon Avon. I arrived at 9pm on a Friday while the pub was busy, but someone helped me straight away, took payment and showed me to my room.

We like this place best for overnight stays, usually when we're seeing a show. The hosts are pleasant and helpful, and there's secure parking just around the corner.
