The restaurant and rooms are handled by two separate people, but the operation feels seamless. Both sides show real professionalism and attention to detail, and the cleanliness was excellent. We enjoyed the food so much the first night that we came back for dinner the next evening. The restaurant is run by a friendly couple, with delicious, locally sourced dishes on the main menu and specials board, plus excellent wine choices. It gets busy, so booking ahead is a good idea. Our room was spacious and quiet, with a comfortable bed, working heating and plenty of sockets for charging things. It faced the churchyard, so traffic noise was minimal. Check-in was round the back using a key cupboard, which seems standard at many places now. We stayed in the 1970`s themed room, styled with things I remembered from that decade, including a record player and records, plus a wire magazine rack stocked with period magazines. Breakfast runs from 8.00am to 9.30am, a fairly short window. Hotel staff prepare it, so it isn’t the usual cooked full English, but there was a tasty selection: ham, salami, cheeses, chutney, fresh fruit, yoghurt, marmalade and jams, toast, pastries, cereals and cakes. I’d highly recommend both the rooms and restaurant, and will definitely be back. Great work from everyone.

We loved our June stay. We were about two-thirds of the way through our hike on the Cotswold Way when we found this wonderful spot. The room was beautiful and comfortable, the restaurant food was amazing, and the staff made us feel so welcome. Highly recommend staying here!

The breakfast buffet at St Michaels was the highlight for me, easily the best I’ve had. Our boho room was spotless, beautifully decorated and immaculate. Everyone was welcoming and happy to help, and each day we had fresh towels, tea, cups, coffee, plus chilled still and sparkling water and milk at no charge. It’s in such a gorgeous spot too. I’d have a hard time recommending anywhere more.

Breakfast is well worth having here: the homemade bread and pasties were fresh, and they let you take the leftovers along for lunch. The hostess was lovely and helped with our bags. Our room in Painswick was a good size, with a modern bathroom and nice touches like a coffee maker and fresh milk. I’d happily recommend staying here if you’re nearby.
