The room smelled musty, and there was dirt and dust on the windowsill and the legs of both tables. The remote was filthy, with old food or something on it. The hallway carpet smelled damp and absolutely stank. Our door did lock, but it was loose and looked as if someone had forced their way in. The pillows were lumpy, though the bed itself wasn’t too uncomfortable. On arrival the reception area looked dirty, and a sign said reception was closed, so we had to go to the adjoining Toby Carvery. When my husband went back to complain, there was nobody at reception again. With COVID making everyone cautious, that level of cleanliness was especially concerning. This place needs a complete refurbishment. It’s in a very nice area, with beautiful Sutton Park just a stone’s throw away, but the standards were far from high. Avoid.

Our ground floor room was small but clean and tidy, with a TV, wall-mounted electric heater, kettle and clean towels. The bed was dreadfully uncomfortable, though, with a firm mattress. We had two good pillows, but my wife and I both slept badly. It was quiet apart from the usual hotel noise, and after 10pm you need the key fob they issue to get in. Getting there means entering the pub car park next to the Toby Carvery and immediately turning left down a sharp slope to the Travelodge. I couldn’t see any marked disabled bays. You also need to register your vehicle at reception for the whole stay, or Euro Car Parks, which controls the pub car park you have to use, may send you a huge bill. It’s a budget hotel in a fairly tired state, and we wouldn’t stay again.

The room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, and the booking was very pocket-friendly. Best of all were Chrissie and Karen. They were so kind, helpful and welcoming, I couldn’t have asked for better staff during my stay.

The bed was comfy and the shower was great, and the heaters worked well, so happy days. Nicola and iris were really helpful. Nicola even offered to give me a lift with my case, bless her. There’s a Toby carvery next door and plenty of other places to eat nearby.

Clean, tidy, basic rooms, about what you’d expect from Travelodge. Parking is free, and it’s a 15 to 20 minute trip to the centre. Toby Carvery is right next door.
