Somerfield Lodge

The only letdown was our third floor attic room. It had no view, no lift and no fire exit, although we were assured the building met all necessary fire regulations. We’d be happy to return if we could stay on the ground or first floor. The setting was idyllic, the staff lovely, the food great, and our stay in the six bed dwelling beside the golf club house was really relaxing.

John, the club Manager, sorted out our booking and arranged tee times at Clyne and an offside course, so a big thanks to him. The package included golf and was exceptional value for money through Somerfield Lodge and Clyne Golf club. Our room was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed for a short break. Breakfast in the adjoining club house was superb, especially the best bacon I’ve had in a hotel for a very long time. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and we’ll be back next year.

I really liked the views and location, and breakfast was lovely, but I can’t give this more than three stars. The toilets in both rooms barely flushed, and both seats were broken. We were also given conflicting information about food: at 6pm we were told last orders were at 9, but when we tried at 8:32, they said the kitchen stopped taking orders at 8:30 and denied telling us otherwise. Staff were a bit rude, and grilled us about why we were staying there because we were foreigners, which felt strange.

The breakfast was fabulous, with yoghurt, granola, fresh fruit, orange juice, tea and coffee, Welsh cakes, toast, then a full cooked breakfast. I didn’t need to eat again for the rest of the day! The room was clean and had everything needed, and the staff were friendly and helpful. They made the atmosphere relaxed and comfortable.
