De Vere Village

The beds were comfortable, and breakfast was okay, though very basic. But the hotel and room felt dated and not particularly clean, and the place really needs renovating. It was unbearably hot in the room, especially in summer, and I could barely sleep. There’s no air conditioning. They provide a fan, but it hardly helps, and the windows open only about an inch, so very little fresh air gets in. There were barely any plug sockets. None by the bed or near the mirrors, one tucked behind the sofa that we had to move to reach, another behind the TV, and just one by the door. I wouldn’t stay here again.

I stay here quite often and really like the rooms. The service is always great, and I love the place, but I can’t give it the fifth star. The special menu offers different choices, but most days they’re out of at least two of them. Also, I’m an early riser and still heard noise coming through the walls from what seemed to be the gym. I only worked out what it was when I heard it again at breakfast. That’s before 7 am, which some guests might not appreciate.

The decor is a bit tired, but aren’t we all? I’ll definitely stay again. The bed was one of the comfiest I’ve slept in, the shower was great and room service brought good food. Staff were super friendly at both check-in and check-out. I had an excellent stay.

I got a very warm welcome from a lovely, polite and helpful staff member. She checked me in quickly and clearly explained how to find my room, which made arrival smooth and stress-free. The room looked clean and well presented at first, though with the lights on I noticed it was quite dark. The bed was extremely comfortable, and I slept very well. I booked through a work app and was disappointed that this meant I couldn’t use the hotel facilities. I’d been looking forward to a swim after a long day at work. Later I tried to get food at the bar, but there were no staff there when I arrived. It was also loud and busy, so perhaps that was just as well. The helpful arrival and comfortable bed were definite highlights, though the restrictions on facilities and the bar put a damper on the stay. That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t book here again. I certainly wouldn’t rule it out.
