The Old Presbytery Guest House

I slept really well in a comfy bed and had a good breakfast in the morning. The place was clean, nice and quiet, and getting a taxi to or from it was easy. I was attending a wedding at Hazlewood Castle and would recommend staying here instead of there. My friends who stayed in the castle didn't have as good a night.

After a day at work, coming back to tea and homemade cake in front of a beautiful wood burner was especially welcoming. The room was a good size and cosy, and breakfast was filling. A good place for a business trip or for couples.

Chris and Christine made us feel so welcome. They even brought us tea when we arrived, and helped plan our whole day at Towton Battlefield. We'd have been lost without them. Their German Shepherd, Jess, is cautious around visitors but warms up once she settles. Breakfast was delicious, with homemade jam, coffee, warmed croissants and yogurt. A full English was available too, though we didn't choose it. The rates were good, the gated grounds felt secure, and the room had a cool old-fashioned lock with an antique-style key. The guest house is elegant and full of old stone and worn wood, with plenty of history. There's a booklet about the property, and it mentions some neat hidden features you might miss just by looking around. The setting and house are the most beautiful I've ever seen: rolling hills, ivy-covered stone walls and English cottages make it picturesque. It's a solid walk from Saxton, a park, a pub and more, so it feels out of the way without being too far from civilization. We had a wonderful stay at the Old Presbytery Guest House and will definitely be back.

The shower had plenty of hot water and good pressure, and the room was comfortable, clean and attractive. Our hosts were lovely, shared useful local tips and put on a really good breakfast.
