The restaurant was a real surprise, fine dining of a standard I wouldn't have expected here. The room was good too, with a fantastic view.

The staff were fantastic, friendly and helpful, and the fishing town location is lovely, with the ferry to Islay nearby. The restaurant was just average, though. What really let the hotel down was how extremely dirty and run down it was. It badly needs a major update and a thorough clean. Shame, because despite the good staff and location, I wouldn't stay here again.

We only came for a meal, not a stay. The seafood selection was excellent, and they catered for the vegan in our group. Good service too, with a lovely harbour view.

We stopped at the Anchor hotel on our way to Islay. The staff were really nice, and our room had everything we needed, but the restaurant was the standout. We live in Scotland and order Cullen Skink whenever we find it, and this was easily the best we've had. The Smoked Haddock fish and chips were incredible too. Smoked cheese and whisky are both so good, so I guess smoked fish works just as well. We'd love to stay again.
