The House at Glenbarr

A superb shop, garden centre, and cafe are right next door. My wife and I had a great one-night stay in a lovely room, with a delicious breakfast the next morning. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended.

The room was spotless, freshly decorated, and comfortably furnished, with a good bed, just-right pillows, bedside lights, plenty of sockets, and a reasonably sized TV. The bathroom was immaculate too, and the shower was big enough for two. We found the place easily with SatNav, and our keys were left out for our late arrival. Breakfast is included, served at the shop and cafe next door. It’s cereal, fruit juice, or hot filled rolls rather than a cooked breakfast, but it’s good value and a nice start to the day. The staff we spoke to were helpful, and we’ll stay here again when we return.

There were hairs under the mattress, and the room got freezing overnight because someone kept turning down the heating. It’s controlled for the whole building from the communal living room. If someone’s too warm, they could turn down their own radiator or open a window. The person in charge wasn’t much help either. Breakfast might suit someone trying to keep fit.

We stayed in The Hayloft, which you can only book directly. It was all brand new, with a large comfortable bed in the main room, a small kitchen, and a separate lounge that gave us some extra space. We ordered platters from the cafe and enjoyed them. Breakfast was excellent too, and the people were nice. Highly recommended.
