Premier Inn Taunton Central - North

The breakfast buffet had a good choice, and the coffee machine was decent too. Rooms were a good size, clean and quiet, just what I wanted from a Premier Inn. Staff were friendly, though I barely needed to speak to anyone since most things are handled online. It was easy to find, with plenty of parking at the front or back. A few minutes’ drive gets you into the town centre.

My first stay here, in January 2025, went well. I had a first-floor room and they noted my dietary requirements, with breakfast ready for the time I said I’d come down. The March 2026 visit was very different. My ground-floor room was cold and musty, and there was mould around the window frame from condensation when I opened the curtains in the morning. There was even a slug in the bathroom. I’d told them about my dietary requirements, but this time nothing had been prepared for me. After that experience, I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

The room was spot on, as it usually is at a Premier Inn, but the food service was a shambles. My starter took nearly 40 minutes, and before it arrived I was offered someone else’s starter and asked if I wanted another drink. The staff gave barely a thoughtful or heartfelt apology for the delay. The food was edible, but this wasn’t the service I expect from a national hotel chain. One drink was offered free because of the wait. Maybe relying on reception staff in big hotel dining rooms after closing other establishments makes it harder to maintain the service you and the public expect.

We won’t stay again. The hotel feels outdated and needs a major refurbishment. There’s no air conditioning in the rooms, and although the bathroom wasn’t dirty, the sink holes were rusty. There’s no bar, which made being told at check-in about a happy hour confusing. The staff were helpful at times, but on other occasions walked past without acknowledging us. It’s at least a 15-minute walk into town, with nothing nearby if you want somewhere local. Breakfast needs 24 hours’ notice. When we asked for the room to be cleaned, they only removed the cups and replaced the towels.
