The lady behind the bar was kind enough to take the mushroom tagliatelle off our bill, which we appreciated. The rest of the evening was still a letdown. We came for a New Year’s Eve meal and were surprised to see only about five tables occupied. The beef strips starter was enjoyable, but the chorizo king prawns were disappointing. They were regular-sized prawns, and there weren't many, especially for the menu's most expensive starter. The mains were the worst part. The mushroom tagliatelle tasted like a boil-in-the-bag meal, with almost no sauce or flavour. My steak was meant to come with peppercorn sauce but arrived with gravy, so we sent it back and waited several minutes for it to be sorted. Our repeat drinks order was wrong too, with one drink completely different from what we'd had before. After eating, we waited about 10 minutes for someone to clear the table or bring the bill. In the end, we went to the bar to pay and leave ourselves. It's a shame, because the restaurant itself is lovely. Food, service and attention to detail were very poor, especially on such a quiet evening. Hopefully it improves, as it could be much better.

The setting is fantastic and the decor is quite nice, but the food was not something I'd recommend. I didn't stay in the accommodation, so I chose a middle rating. The staff were pleasant and enthusiastic, though they seemed easily confused. We gave our first drinks order twice before it was acted on; the same happened with the next round, and then we were asked a third time what we wanted. When we got the menu, we were told they had no fish and chips, burgers, pork belly, or lamb for the pizza. Our nachos sharing plate was overdone and came with a strange runny white sauce, maybe watered-down sour cream. Two of us ordered chicken. The main fillet looked like it had been bought frozen at Farm Foods, and the chips were frozen too. Someone else had overdone steak, while the Thai red curry oddly came with pilau rice, naan bread and mango chutney. When the best part of the meal is frozen chips, that says something. When asked how the food was, we just wanted to leave and gave a subdued "OK." No one asked if there was a problem.

We stayed at the pub with friends on 27th December 2025. The rooms were nice and had very large en-suite facilities, but the bed was so uncomfortable that I had a restless night. Then, at around 8.30am, the fire alarm went off. We spent about 20-30 minutes in the car park waiting for a staff member to arrive and silence it. We all ate there in the afternoon, and the food was lovely and plentiful.

The food was tasty and came out piping hot, and they were accommodating when the nut roast had run out, changing it to the veg tart. We also ordered vegan burgers. The menu said they came with onion rings, but none arrived, and the server explained that the fryer wasn't vegan. At £16, maybe the menu should say that, or the portion could include a few more chips. There were only a few in a tiny basket, and the burgers were small, more like a child's portion, though they tasted good. I asked for extra chips and was told yes, but they never came. We visited on a busy Sunday. Our original booking was for 4.30, but they moved us to 3.15, which was helpful. The place was clearly short-staffed: unwashed glasses were piled along the bar and everyone seemed rushed. Service was slow, and our cutlery didn't come with the food, so we had to wait for it. The staff were clearly under pressure.

Our group of 16 had a fantastic three-course meal on Sunday 4th. I chose the mushroom starter, roast beef, and trillionaires tart with honeycomb ice cream. It was all absolutely delicious. Well done to everyone involved. I'd return 10000%.
