International Hotel Telford

We had a really enjoyable weekend here, despite the odd shower. The hotel is good value and a step up from a Travelodge, even if it's not top class. Staff couldn't be more helpful, and the location is handy for the park, the International Center and the shopping center. Ask about the Exotic Zoo discount and shortcut. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, plus an ice rink, bowling alley and Cineworld. Of course, how useful it is depends on what brings you to Telford.

For the price, I'd definitely recommend this great value hotel. The room was lovely and spotlessly clean, and the staff were excellent. Ryan and the breakfast staff kept everything topped up, and there were some hot items too, which was a bonus since I thought it was only a continental breakfast.

The location is great for the International centre. The room was basic but clean, and the shower was large with a lovely strong flow. There was no air-conditioning or heating because of work going on. Breakfast was disappointing. I was told there were no sausages, then later found out I had to ask for them. I thought I had done that when I asked, "Where are the sausages, please?" The bar was very overpriced and only had bottled beer. The hotel next door had a better selection, but was also very overpriced. Hotels don't need to charge like that. If drinks were reasonably priced, people would drink more and eventually spend more.

The room was clean enough, though tired. For a hotel charging £160 a night, I expected better. My room was on a floor under renovation, with floor coverings and no ceiling, making it look like a building site. Reception didn't mention this at check-in, and I imagine they hoped I wouldn't complain. The first thing I noticed in the room was the AC rattling loudly. When I tried to switch it off with the wall panel, the panel fell off. I called reception and was told only they could turn it off. Later, at 2am, a lorry loading at the International centre next door woke me. The sound came through the room's thin windows. Breakfast was my biggest disappointment. It starts at 6:30am, but the scrambled eggs had been sitting there for three hours by the time I got to them. They were powdered eggs and the worst I've ever had. There was also some very sad-looking bacon, a meat-free sausage cooked to order, and beans. The bread was dry, and the pastry selection was the worst I've seen in a while. At the continental station there was a slice of ham, some tinned fruit, a couple of salami slices, a small bowl of mummified cucumber and tomato, and yoghurt. The menu showed cheese as part of the continental option, but they'd run out and had no idea when it would be back. Save your money for a Premier Inn.
