We booked for my daughter’s 6th birthday, and the food and service were amazing. A little happy birthday picture was waiting on the table. We hadn’t ordered pudding, but they brought out a chocolate brownie with happy birthday written in chocolate sauce on the plate. She was so excited. We’d recommend it and will definitely return.

The rooms are spotless, and Dee the housekeeper stays on top of everything. Evie, the morning manager, runs a tight service while staying jolly and kind. She makes the best coffee in Hampshire. Breakfast is freshly cooked and delicious, and the place has such a homely feel. A great pub and place to stay. Regards, Jenny and Tim xx

We loved the location and the staff were wonderful. The roast was really good too. Our room needs some TLC and blackout curtains. The bed was quite comfortable, though a bit too bouncy for us, but others might like it.

I came to The Hawk Inn for an unplanned break last week after my mother died. I needed somewhere quiet where I wouldn’t feel overwhelmed by silence or lonely, so I could process things. I found it on Google, and having my dog with me meant the pet-friendly policy mattered. I’m so glad I ended up here. The staff were lovely and friendly. They made a fuss of my dog, or at least put up with her constant need for affection with such grace and charm. The pub and rooms are cozy, and the countryside around it is beautiful, with green fields, sheep and horses, thatched cottages and unlit streets. I felt far away, even though I was much closer to home than I could take in. Our room had a few chips and scrapes, but it felt lived-in rather than run-down. There was enough space for me and my small dog, though a big dog might find it cramped. The bed was big enough for even the largest dog. She had a bowl and bed. We booked at the last minute, so the room treats weren’t available, but she got plenty at the bar, and I found homemade shortbread waiting on the second day. The water got very hot, and the mini fridge stayed properly cold, so the bottled water and milk inside were just right. Lunch was lovely, ham, egg and chips, and my dog happily helped me with it. Dinner was also very good, though the 8oz steak could have had a better sear. I’d asked for it blue, and a hotter pan would have helped with the short cooking time. At £31.50+, I’d also have liked more than leeks as the seasonal veg, and more than half a small tomato, especially as the menu listed mushrooms. Breakfast was tasty and a very good size. The drinks, including coffee, were well made, and when dinner was more than I could manage, they kindly gave me a takeaway tub. It was also great that they offer Blue Light Discount on food. Nobody knew I was grieving, but the stay gave me what I needed: a few days to process things without feeling overwhelmed. I’ll definitely come back when I need a little break. Thank you for the help you don’t even know you gave xx

We stopped in while walking the dogs, had breakfast at the pub, and let them have a dip in the stream. We didn’t stay in the rooms, but the pub, grounds, food and staff were so good that I imagine the rooms are great too. We’ll definitely be back. Thanks so much.
