The building could do with refurbishment, but everything else was first class. I spent four nights on a self-guided group cycling holiday. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was cooked to a high standard and served on hot plates. As someone with celiac disease, I was well catered for. I intend to come back.

The food kept everyone happy: breakfast had plenty of vegan and vegetarian choices, the meat eaters were impressed with the cooked breakfast, packed lunches for the walks had brilliant options, and there was a good range at dinner each evening. Our two days of walks were both enjoyable, despite the occasional heavy shower. Gill led the two walks I joined really well and was engaging with everyone, including people from varied backgrounds with limited English. Her fluent Spanish made communication easy, and we felt safe in her hands. I didn't join Chris's walk myself, but my colleagues were very pleased with him. They said he was charming and entertaining, put the group at ease, and even found spare walking boots for someone who'd forgotten theirs. The staff were welcoming and accommodating throughout. Heather, the manager, and Darren at the bar stood out, and everyone we dealt with was very good. We were there for a walking holiday with a mixed group. I'd highly recommend Abingworth Hall and HF holidays to walkers of any ability. Even without joining the walks, it would still make for a brilliant holiday and good value.

The “learn to play Bridge course “ was very good. The hotel itself, though, felt like a 2 star place rather than a four star one. It was dilapidated outside, badly in need of refurbishment inside, and the rooms were cold.

The leaders and walks were excellent, and the evening entertainment was friendly and enjoyable. The staff were lovely and the food fantastic. I had a great stay, though I would have preferred a shower instead of a bath, and wished we could turn the heating down a bit.

Our stay was comfortable because the staff adapted to what we needed. They were warm, empathetic and professional, and we never felt we had to fit into an institutional routine. Thanks to everyone.
