Greenland House B&B

We should’ve stayed longer. Our host greeted us warmly, shared useful local advice and made a lovely breakfast. It’s a great old guest house converted from a bank, and absolutely the best place to stay up this way.

Victoria made us feel very welcome after our long trip from Devon. Our second-floor family room had its own bathroom, was spacious, clean and very comfortable, with a well-stocked tea and coffee tray and complimentary chocolates. You reach it by a magnificent feature staircase. The hotel is stylishly furnished and modern inside, even though the outside looks austere. We came in mid-June and found it quiet despite its handy spot on the main road through Castletown, which is particularly good for cyclists. There’s secure bike storage in a sheltered lean-to, out of sight from the road. Shared spaces include a cosy dining room, lounge and snug, with books and games for all ages. For dinner, there are several takeaways in Castletown, and guests can eat their food in the B&B dining room. Greenland House B&B exceeded our expectations and made an excellent base for the start of our JOGLE. I’d love to stay again.

I was here for work. The rooms were great, the location was fantastic, and the staff were lovely and helpful.

Room 4 was clean and excellent, and the hostess was brilliant and lovely. Breakfast was cooked, though a little light compared with what other places serve. The house is beautiful, with two lovely lounges and parking on site. It’s handy for Thurso and John O Groats, and I’d definitely consider staying again.
