Hotel Square

The staff were friendly and helpful with our requests, and the family room was comfortable. We stayed because of an event at Glenlivet Estate, which was conveniently close. Both nights we ate at the hotel restaurant, where there were freshly cooked choices for the whole family. Breakfast was tasty and included in our stay.

We didn't stay at the hotel, but the takeaway food from its restaurant was the best I've had in ages. It arrived piping hot after a very reasonable wait. The chicken was perfectly cooked, and the spices brought out the flavour without making it too hot for anyone wondering. I found the ravioli too al dente, but the brownie was sensational!!!! It wasn't cheap, but was worth every penny. Great service, thank you.

Breakfast was the highlight, really nice, and the Eton Mess we had for dessert was excellent. The room was clean, spacious and nice, and the staff were friendly. The hotel has a restaurant and bar, though the bar is very simple. For drinks, I'd suggest the Glenavon just outside, which has much more atmosphere. Our TV wasn't working, which was disappointing. It was a nice stay, though the hotel lacked some of the charm you find in many Highlands hotels.

The homemade chili sauce the chef made for my eggs on request was a real highlight, and breakfast was great. Still, after an exhilarating hike across the moors from The Glenlivet on the Speyside Way, I was disappointed by the stay. I had a bad night's sleep in a really stuffy room. They said guests had left the windows open during a storm and several had broken, so all the windows were nailed shut. That wasn't the best solution, and the cheap little plastic fan the manager supplied was no substitute for fresh air.
