Halfway House Inn

The staff were nice and the atmosphere lively, but we were very disappointed by the meal. My sister and I ordered the vegan burger, which was a big mistake, and my girlfriend, who has celiac disease, asked for a gluten-free beef burger. It arrived in a gluten bun, so we had to ask for a replacement. It came back quickly, which made me think they may have just moved the patty onto two slices of gluten-free white bread. That didn’t seem like good allergy practice. My burger was cold overall, with a bun that seemed only partly defrosted. It also needed pickles, onion and sauce. It only had salad leaves, tomato and cheese, and at £16 it was short on flavour. The chips were okay. I wouldn’t recommend the food here.

The sticky toffee pudding may be the best I’ve ever had, especially if you’ve got a sweet tooth. The chef also let me make a small change to the menu. I stayed one night in a single room, which was just right and good value, and the hospitality was warm and friendly. Kingsand is a hidden gem of Cornish beauty, and the Halfway House Inn feels like the heart of the village. I’d recommend staying here. If Kingsand isn’t on your radar, it should be.

A cosy, unpretentious local pub with Cornish beers on tap and a wood fire. A lovely dog-friendly place to stop during a coastal walk.

We go to the Halfway House several times a week and have tried the other pub-restaurants in the area. They’re good, but this one’s the best. The food is excellent, nicely presented and served quickly. There’s a lovely outdoor dining area, and the staff are friendly. The manager is attentive and nothing is too much trouble. Highly recommend 👌
