Abbey Sands Hotel

We went to Abbey Sands with our two children so my wife and I could take my mum away for her birthday. From the moment we arrived, the staff were friendly and attentive. Our room was spacious, comfortable and finished to a high modern standard, and the bed was genuinely comfortable. That's a big plus, since plenty of places we've stayed seem complacent about giving guests cheap or worn-out beds. Breakfast was great too, with a broad buffet selection including a full English. Everything was well cooked, delicious and made with decent ingredients. Thanks to everyone for the hard work. We'll book again when we're in Torquay.

The staff are unforgettable. Elaine, Floyd, Morgan and Robin are the best people I've ever met, and I'll never forget the experience. The breakfast was absolutely delicious every day, with loads to choose from: a full English, fruit, cereal, coffee, different teas and juices. This is the best place I've ever stayed. Love you all, and can't wait to see you again. If you have anything bad to say about this hotel or its brilliant people, there must be something wrong with you!

We booked at the last minute for two of us and our dog. The staff were fantastic, especially the man at the desk and the Scottish lady, though sorry, I didn't get their names. The beds were so comfortable and I slept really well. The pool area was clean and nice. The room was tidy overall, but the bathroom vent was very dirty and thick with dust.

For £120 for three nights, it's unbeatable value. My room was upgraded at the last minute to fit my friends, and the helpful staff quickly sorted out problems with the third-party booking site. The building has lots of character. The rooms are a bit outdated and not the prettiest, but I much prefer them to the copy-paste interiors in many modern hotels. The pool was a little green and dark at one end, though the temperature was nice and it was great to have a swim.
