Cary Arms & Spa

We took our little dog along, and the staff made the trip stress-free for him as well as for us. They were welcoming and accommodating, and made sure he felt at home. Nick, the duty manager, and the whole team were friendly and helpful throughout. We came to The Cary Arms in November for our wedding anniversary and my husband’s birthday. On arrival, a complimentary chilled bottle of Prosecco was waiting in our room, which was really a spacious, sumptuous, immaculately clean beach hut. The views were breathtaking, and hearing the waves crash against the rocks made the stay unforgettable. All the food was delicious and beautifully presented, from breakfast to dinner. We enjoyed it so much that we’ve already booked a few more days later this month for my birthday. We can’t recommend this getaway highly enough.

Cary Arms is an old, authentic Devonshire inn with five-star staff and service. If you’re after a shiny granite-and-marble five-star hotel, it may not be for you, but we’re looking forward to coming back. We had a wonderful two-night anniversary break in one of the luxury rooms. The staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The hotel also arranged a complimentary bottle of wine with our evening meal, a very kind gesture. Many thanks to Oliver, the waiting and serving staff, and the lads who parked and brought back our car.

The spa was such a relaxing start to our stay, and having it to ourselves when we arrived was lovely. It also helped with my recovery from knee surgery. We had a massage together the next morning, and the ladies were warm, professional and really skilled. Our beach suite was just right. We’d pictured sunshine and calm water, but the stormy sea turned out to be exciting in its own way. The Cary Arms and its setting looked beautiful, dressed up for Christmas, and dinner was delicious. We took pudding and a nightcap in the Saloon, which felt like a treat. The champagne for our birthdays and 20th wedding anniversary was much appreciated, as was the sloe gin. A fantastic short break, just as we’d hoped and more. Thanks to all the staff for making it special. We hope to come back.

Our 8 year old daughter felt very welcome, even though there weren’t many other children around during our three nights in the Captains Family Suite. The spa is for adults only, and it was beautifully kept, with a fabulous jet pool. We loved the New England decor and the views, and the food was incredible. The Catch of the day and Scallops were perfection. We’d happily return to the Cary Arms & Spa.
