The Charterhouse

We loved our stay at The Charterhouse and can't wait to come back. The garden is beautiful, parking is ample, and we even enjoyed making friends with the cat. Our room was comfortable, spotless and well equipped. Lisa and Christophe made the stay especially lovely. Lisa made us feel at home, never let anything become too much trouble, and we enjoyed chatting over breakfast. Christophe cooked delicious vegan breakfasts each morning. I'm still thinking about his wild mushrooms on toast! Thanks for taking care of our dietary needs. Lisa also kept oat milk and Nakd bars stocked in our room.

The garden room was just right for our mum and three dogs, while the attic room worked for the parents and teenager. Our double room was spacious, and all the rooms were spotless and suited what our family needed. Breakfast was lovely and catered for all diets. We got such a friendly, warm welcome. What a gem, I'd highly recommend it.

We found The Chartered House at the last minute while looking for a stop in Torquay, and booked a compact dog-friendly room since we were travelling with Oscar. Lisa welcomed us warmly, then gave us room to relax after the journey. We didn't meet her French husband Christophe, but loved his homemade English breakfast. It was quiet, welcoming and lovely. We'll come back!

The top-floor room had amazing views over the water, and the seafront is literally five minutes away. It felt like home, only better. Lisa made sure we had everything we needed and made us feel so welcome. Her husband Christophe is the on-site chef, and his cooked breakfast was delicious. He also makes his own very tasty jams. The Charterhouse deserves more than five stars. We will most definitely return!
