Waters Edge Hotel

The location is beautiful. I’d read some reviews and was a little worried about staying at this hotel, but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. It does need some maintenance, though for the price we paid it was very good value. I’d come again.

I’ve stayed in some dumps, but this could be the worst hotel I’ve ever been to. Don’t expect to sleep at all. The creaky-floor rooms seem to go to people practicing tap dancing or wrestlers rehearsing. The rooms are DIRTY, not just grubby or old. And the bathroom sink is right next to the bed. Honestly, it feels like a joke. We’ll be asking the credit card company to refund this botch job. I can only guess some cowboy property investors bought the hotel to rip people off. Avoid it at all costs. It isn’t even cheap.

We stayed two nights in summer 2023, paying £160 per night. There was no breakfast or food available, and we were told this had stopped due to COVID. The views were lovely, but I would never stay here again. Our “family room” might have been acceptable in 1989. The beds were awful and too hard, the bathroom flooded when we showered, the TV got one channel if we were lucky, and the noise from slamming doors and creaking floors above made sleep difficult. The hotel feels like stepping back in time. It was dirty, very dated and extremely run down. We nicknamed the owner “The grunter”; what a wonderful sole he was. This place needs a total revamp and new management. There’s zero passion there.

We knew in advance that the hotel didn’t serve food, and had planned to eat out anyway. The location is excellent, almost right on the seafront, with brilliant views through the windows facing the water. Our room was excellent too, with two windows we could easily open in the warm weather. I can thoroughly recommend this hotel.
