Royal Seven Stars Hotel

The staff were terrific, warm and friendly, and made us feel that nothing was too much trouble. My friend has complex dietary needs, and the chef went above and beyond to cater for us. We both had a superb dinner in the bar, and breakfast was delicious too. We stayed one January night in 2026. The room was spotless, cosy and well appointed. It's a very old building, so each room has its own character. The fluffy towels, luxury toiletries and hospitality tray were all just right, right down to the Furniss biscuits. A good-standard hotel that gets the little touches right.

My friends enjoyed their starters and mains on this visit, and I liked my starter too. But my fish and chips were disappointing: the fish was about the size of a goujon and nothing like the photos above. At around £19.50, it didn't feel worth it. I didn't raise it at the time because a friend was treating us, but it does make me unsure about coming back if such a small piece can be served without anyone thinking something's wrong. I'd eaten here with friends twice before and both meals were enjoyable in terms of service and the quality and quantity of the food. This was our third visit.

The brisket of beef at today's Sunday lunch tasted just like my childhood. Best roast I've had in years, and our waiter was friendly. Thank you.

After a long day on public transport, we stopped for lunch on the way back to Plymouth. It was cosy, with that proper English pub feel, and the staff were really nice and accommodating. The food came quickly, piping hot, and was impeccable, with some great vegan options. They handled my allergy well and had an allergen guide available. The seasonal cocktail menu was fab. I had the Toffee Apple, possibly the best cocktail I've ever had. I'll definitely be back again and again.
