Portscatho is a pretty old fishing village, with a small centre, shop, cafe, pub, club and Italian restaurant. The harbour wall and views down the coast are stunning. There are plenty of places to eat, though prices are high. A pizza is about £17, and the shop is well stocked and great. I hadn’t realised how far Portscatho is from Truro. The drive takes a good half hour, which became a pain after a few days because everything we wanted to do was that way or towards St Austell. The house is nice and has the big things covered: a good kitchen and bathroom/ensuite, plus a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. It’s an older place that could use a little care, but nothing that should put you off. Small details could be better, like the cold white low-energy bulb in the main bedroom. It takes ages to come on and makes the room look like a hospital ward. The house is upside down, with the main living space upstairs, where large picture windows and a small balcony give you fabulous views. Linen, towels, dishwasher tablets, dish cloths and washing-up liquid are provided, which is a nice touch. I’d give it four stars, and a few minor upgrades could bring it to five. The wifi is really slow and keeps cutting out, so don’t rely on it.
