The room was compact, but it had everything I needed and was really nice. We’d booked at the last minute as a treat after camping the night before, and the hotel felt lovely once we were inside. Everyone was so welcoming, including the restaurant staff. Special thanks to the restaurant manager, who made me fresh ginger and honey tea when I had really bad heartburn. It helped a lot.

It was nice to have the bar for pool and darts, and apart from the bathroom needing an update, everything was good. The bedrooms were really nice. I’d have liked somewhere to get coffee or water in the afternoon, since the bar doesn’t open until 3.

The bed was a little small for the two of us, especially with my partner being a large man and me medium build. His tent was destroyed by Storm David, so he had to stay with me. The hotel was fantastic about accommodating us. I stayed while he was doing the middle section of the West Highland Way, and we absolutely loved our time at Muthu Ben Doran. The bed issue wasn’t too bad, and we’ll definitely stay again.

The food was good, though nothing special. The rooms and dining area were cold when the electric heater wasn’t running, but with it on, the room got really warm. The rooms are quite small and a bit dated, especially the bathroom, and there was nowhere for luggage except on the floor.

The buffet was very average, but the à la carte food was very good. I stayed here while walking the West Highland Way, and the Ember bus stop is close by if needed. The staff are great, a hard-working, lean team. It’s a comfortable place in a great location, with great service.
