The food and atmosphere were excellent, though it isn’t cheap. I especially recommend the beef rib. Our whole group’s food arrived together, and the staff knew the menu well and gave helpful advice. I’m sure they’d be happy to discuss any allergies in advance. We didn’t try the rooms, so I can’t comment on them. I’ve added several photos of the food and the December 2025 menu. We came for a large birthday celebration between Christmas and New Year, when the pub was quite busy, but the staff still gave us wonderful service. There’s plenty of free parking, it’s easy to find, and the grounds are lovely to explore.

We were stunned by how carefully the team handled our daughter’s and granddaughters’ severe nut and sesame allergies. Bar staff, servers and management all took time to talk us through the kitchen layout, utensils and where and how the food would be prepared. We’re usually treated like pariahs, so we really appreciated the care every member of staff showed. The meal itself was glorious and prepared to a very high standard. Everyone was welcoming and knowledgeable, and I’d highly recommend spending an evening here. We’ll definitely return. Thank you so much to every member of the team.

We stopped in for a Sunday roast recently, and it was absolutely delicious. The staff were all friendly, and the bar team knew the drinks well and could help if you weren’t sure what to choose. The pub is lovely, with stunning grounds and beautiful decor inside. A 10/10 experience.

The bar snack and drink we had first were amazing, so we went into our £28 Christmas late lunch with high hopes. The meal itself was very disappointing. The plate was basic and sparse, and I could only eat half because I didn’t know what vegetables would come with it and had no choice. I hate complaining and normally wouldn’t unless I was really dissatisfied, but it looked as if it had come from a secondary school kitchen. The potatoes were extremely dry, the meat wasn’t as delicious as advertised, and the pig in blanket was borderline raw. The menu didn’t mention the vegetables, and nobody asked about allergies when we ordered. There was no Yorkshire pudding either. When we asked why, we were told, “Yorkshires are served Sunday only.” Two Christmas plates and four drinks came to just under £100. This is Devon, not London. If you’re charging that much, the food quality and portions need improving. It wasn’t a good visit. I could have bought a better Christmas meal from the freezer aisle at Tesco. We won’t be returning.
