The Argyll Hotel

The live music was entertaining, and there was a good range of drinks. I only visited the bar. The staff were friendly, though they seemed overworked, and the food looked good.

£180 and no breakfast, with no value for money. There was nobody at reception, parking was difficult, and the reception smelled strongly of food. The stairs were narrow, there was no light in the bathroom, and a bulb was missing from the lamp. The curtain fell down too. Is this a hostel?

The room and bathroom were both freezing. The bathroom window wouldn’t shut properly and its electric heater was broken. Cold air also came through the room window, and even after I moved the curtains onto the sill and turned up the heater, the room stayed very cold because the curtains covered most of it. The room was poorly decorated, with badly applied paint that was chipped in places. At night, music from the bar was so loud we could hear it in our room. To get breakfast, you have to go to the sister hotel down the road and pay extra on top of the room price. The car park is at the back, but with no back door you have to walk around to the front on another street, which is awful in cold weather. It’s also extremely dark. Extremely disappointing, and I wouldn’t recommend it.

The whole place was dirty and extremely scruffy. The door was broken, and so were both the bathroom window and the window vent, which had been stuffed with toilet roll. The shaving mirror switch didn’t work, there was dirt in the bed’s button recesses, and litter on the floor.
