The lake views from the Brackenrigg Inn in Ullswater are stunning, and the pub feels cosy and welcoming. We had a wonderful time, with great food and drinks, but Oscar (the Kiwi!) was the real highlight. He was friendly, charming, attentive, and had a great sense of humour. He made us feel very welcome and turned a lovely meal into a memorable visit. Big thanks to him and the rest of the team. We'll be back for the views and food, and maybe Oscar too.

We went for dinner on Wednesday 4th February and really enjoyed the food. The portions were generous, the service was good, and it was very dog-friendly. Even on a quiet Wednesday in February they didn't cut corners, and made sure we had a great visit. We'd definitely return.

I've eaten here for years when visiting the lakes, and the friendly staff and good atmosphere always make it feel homely. I usually travel alone, but James and the team make sure I never feel that way. I finally stayed at the Brackenrigg too, and now I don't think I'll stay anywhere else. The rooms are comfy, breakfast was nicely cooked, and there's a good choice of drinks in the afternoon and evening. The value was unbeatable. Can't wait to come back!

Maybe we caught them on an off-day, but our visit was a real disappointment. It was a hot, busy Sunday, with one barman, dirty glasses piled on the bar, and a long queue to order food and drinks. We waited half an hour to be served. There was just one vegetarian choice apart from a roast, and the food was average at best for the price. Perhaps weekdays are better?

The attention to detail made this feel like such a relaxed, special place, and the lake views were lovely. We only stayed one night at the Brackenrigg Inn, but already want to return. The welcoming staff let us into our room early after we'd enjoyed drinks and a light lunch in the bar. We walked down to Another hotel on the lake, part of the same group. It's stunning, and we enjoyed the sunshine outside before having a swim and making use of the facilities. Dinner back at the Brackenrigg inn was excellent: it was Pie night, and we had the butter chicken pie of the week and a veggie cheese and onion pie. Both were phenomenal. We slept really well, and breakfast the next morning was one of the best we've had.
