The Sun Inn at Pooley Bridge

The welcome was lovely, and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was lovely too, with high-quality bedding and towels. Having a balcony was fabulous in the warm weather. Breakfast had plenty of choice and good-quality bacon, sausage and black pudding. We thoroughly enjoyed the stay and will definitely return!

The rest of our stay was very good: friendly staff, excellent service, and food so good that we ate in the restaurant every night. I'd definitely stay again, but would confirm before completing a booking that we had a first-floor room with a proper shower. We were first given room 9 on the second floor, reached by a narrow, partly spiral staircase. Its bathroom didn't have the shower cubicle shown on the website, only a handheld shower attachment with no screen or curtain. After speaking with a staff member, we moved the next day to a very nice first-floor room with a shower cubicle, like the website photo. The website should make clear that some rooms lack a proper shower and that second-floor access may be difficult for some people.

I came on a busy Saturday night with my dog and managed to get a table inside. The fish and chips arrived within five minutes of ordering, which seemed a bit questionable, but the sticky toffee pudding was amazing. There was a live singer and football on the TV, and the staff were very friendly. It was quite expensive, £40 for two courses and one cider.

The staff made a stressful night feel much easier. After a tyre blew and left us stranded, we found a room online late that evening. They welcomed us with real warmth, understood our situation, and made sure we got a well-earned beer. The room was lovely and breakfast was amazing. Everyone was helpful, even offering a lift into town; we took a taxi so we wouldn’t put them out. Thanks so much. We’ll come back with the family when we can enjoy a more relaxing stay.
