The Boars Head Hotel

Our room was great, and we had a lovely meal during our stay at The Boars Head from 27th February to 1st March 2026. We’d been told by the bar staff that last orders were at 22.30. So at 22.15, after dinner, we went to order two Irish coffees and were rudely told the coffee machine had been switched off because it takes a long time to clean. As a guest, I don’t think the cleaning time is my problem, and I expected all bar services to be available until 22.30. Please let me know your comments.

The food was lovely, hot and really tasty, and the menu keeps changing. We had a beautiful meal for two today. Staff were lovely too, and there’s plenty of parking. Highly recommend if you’re in the area.

The bed was high and comfortable, and the bathroom was clean with some useful essentials provided. There’s a quiet little lounge before the rooms where you can have a nightcap, and parking is plentiful. It’s a cosy place with its own character, and the restaurant serves generous, tasty food at good prices. Burton, Repton and At George's Park are only a few minutes’ drive away. I’d stay here again.

We chose a last-minute, very affordable stay on New Years Day after being given a Twilight Session at Hoar Cross Hall. We didn’t want to drive home afterwards. The welcome was warm, and everyone we spoke to was friendly. The food was lovely and all the fires were burning. It was quiet, presumably because it was 1st Jan, with just us and one other couple staying. Still, the place was fully staffed and the fires were roaring, even at breakfast the next morning. Our room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, and breakfast for two was included. It felt like a bargain.
