The location worked well, and The Pityme pub was excellent. It’s about a half-hour walk to the beach, though. We found the clean bedding and bathrooms a plus, and the place suited a family gathering, but the living area and kitchen needed a better clean. There was dirt on the oven, crockery and cutlery, and a lot of dog hair around, which we didn’t enjoy. The games room was very run down, with broken bits, and the outdoor furniture was dirty. We only stayed for a weekend, but for the price I was disappointed. We’ve stayed in several dog-friendly cottages with Sykes Cottages and they’ve all been spotless.

Being right in the middle of Rock made it easy to get to the butcher, baker, fishmonger and Spar, and we enjoyed the lovely walk to Porthilly beach. From Rock Beach we caught the ferry to Padstow. The walk back uphill can be a lot for little legs after a day out, though the Padstow pasty helped. The more accessible beaches take a drive to reach, and we spent most of our time at Polzeath, but there was plenty to do nearby so we didn’t mind getting in the car. 2 Glyddins was spotless when we arrived and had loads of useful things, from kitchen equipment to books and games. It’s clearly set up for families, with stair gates, a high chair and a cot, which saved us packing all that in the car. The house was comfortable, with modern amenities and everything we needed for a relaxing holiday. We had a wonderful family stay and are grateful for it.
