The Anchor Walberswick

We had such a memorable evening at the Anchor. The team really got the details right, from the cooking and presentation to the service. Usually we'd have to go abroad to find this kind of care. Thanks for a lovely evening, and all the best to everyone there.

We’ve made a tradition of walking along the beach from Southwold, taking the foot-ferry, and stopping here for lunch. It’s the perfect place for it, with great food, a cosy atmosphere and excellent staff. Loved it.

We had lunch on a crisp winter day, and it was lovely and warm in our room. The cheese souffle was followed by cod and chips. Service was polite and friendly.

The pub itself is lovely, and the staff were friendly. The roast was a real letdown, though. The pork was horrible and very dry, the potatoes soggy, and the Yorkshire was doughy and undercooked. The vegetables were plain boiled ones with no seasoning, and the gravy was like water. We sent the meals back and ended up with side chips instead. The hummous was okay, but celery and carrot sticks made it feel like a packed lunch. Such a shame, because the location and building are great and this could be a lovely restaurant if the food improved.
