The facilities were amazing for a reasonable price, and the staff were lovely, even if they seemed understaffed. Breakfast was decent too. The rooms were very good, but I was shocked there was no bellboy. With very large suitcases, getting everything into the room was a hassle. There’s nothing within walking distance, so you’ll need a car to stay here.
The people here were the highlight for us. They helped me fix my car and made sure we had a great breakfast and dinner with friends. The food choices are a bit limited compared with other places, but the service is top notch. The Standard Deluxe rooms are a reasonable size and have everything you could want. The bedrooms and facilities were spotless and superb, though the TVs only have YouTube, no Netflix, which feels limited these days. It’s also well suited to conferences and families. For under £100 a night, Waltham Abbey is a rare hotel I can’t complain about. The location works perfectly for Epping Forest and other local attractions.
Ioana made each dinner feel special during my stay. She was professional, kind, and attentive, and her Spanish made communication much easier for me. Her dish recommendations matched my tastes perfectly every time. Thanks for such great service!
The staff were really friendly and helpful, especially the welcoming guy at the bar. We had food and drinks there, which cost a little more than usual, though I expected that at a Marriott. There were a couple of restaurants too, but we didn’t try them. The large reception had a bar and seating, and the room and bathroom were both spacious, with a comfy bed. They also provided proper coffee, tea, biscuits, and water for free. We stayed for a friend’s birthday that happened to fall on Valentine’s Day, when prices go up everywhere. This place was cheaper than the well-known Premier Inn and pretty good for the price. The only problem was the lack of a lift. My mum and dad struggled with the stairs.
The follow-up to what happened was just as disappointing. My complaint was closed without a proper investigation, and their claim that they would address the matter and outline steps taken amounted to saying it was out of their control and they would not communicate further. I’ll be telling family, friends, and anyone else I know to stay well clear. This was the worst hotel service I’ve ever had. I was at an event at the Marriott Waltham Abbey in December when my jacket was taken from the back of my chair. It had my house and car keys, wallet, and ID inside. Staff kept insisting it “wasn’t here,” dismissed my concerns, and offered no meaningful help. They said CCTV could only be checked with a police reference number. I got one, but they still refused to review the footage. I was stranded without money or ID and with no way home, but the duty manager showed no concern or willingness to help. At 1:30am I had to pay for an Uber and an emergency locksmith. At 2am, the hotel suddenly called to say the jacket had been “found,” without explaining what happened or even apologizing. Soon after, someone tried to use my bank card details. Even then, the hotel showed no concern that someone on its own staff might have been involved. There was no urgency, accountability, or sign they took the situation seriously.
