This was nearly 10 years ago, when I stayed here on leave, so my impression may be a bit dated. The place was amazingly cosy while I was exploring the area and visiting the nearby tank museum. At the bar, an older man whose name I've long forgotten stayed up talking with me about my Army service and his. When I said I needed a way to the train station the next morning, he immediately offered me a lift. I can't recommend this place enough.

The gravy was the best part of the meal. My son's collie cheese was just cheese, and the rest felt like prison food, with no love in it. The potatoes were frozen and mean, and while my portion was the biggest, the other two had only two carrot slices each and tiny flakes of meat. We were gutted and wanted to cry. It didn't taste rank, but it was shameful. We were too embarrassed to say anything, though we wish we had. Service was mediocre.

The woman serving us was super friendly and the service was excellent. The place had a lovely atmosphere and decor. We both ordered the oak burger, the best burger we've ever had, with amazing chunky chips. Everything was fresh, cooked perfectly and reasonably priced for the area. We were so full and content that we can't comment on the desserts. We ate here on 2nd October while staying nearby.

Kim and Gemma were quick to serve us and seemed to anticipate what we needed. Even with two large lunch parties to look after, they made sure my disabled husband and I were cared for and went above and beyond to accommodate us. Both young women were so welcoming and gave great customer service. We assumed Kim was the landlady, and I'm sure they're valued employees. We'll definitely come again when they're working. Thanks so much, Kim, for the warm welcome to your cosy pub!

We've visited twice, once for our son's football team's presentation and once for the recent beer festival. Both times the staff were friendly, polite and welcoming. The location is handy for the village and for a quick stop off the A35. The food was lovely and well priced, and there was a good variety of drinks.
